Ice is 18-24 inches thick with little snow cover so foot traffic is easy. Four wheelers as well as snowmobiles are being used to access the lake. Some are using pick-ups. Fishing was reported fair to good at last weekend’s Millecoquin Lake Winter Festival. We had a total of 24 adults and 5 youths entered in the Ice Fishing Tournament. This is down a bit from previous years. The winners of the contest are as follows:
Largest Perch Brandon Evans $10.00 & certificate
Largest Bluegill Brandon Evans $10.00 & certificate
Largest Pike Andy Eskelinen $10.00 & certificate
(35 ¾’’-13 lbs 9 oz)
Total Catch Andy Eskelinen $100.00 gift certificate
(20 lbs-20 0z total)
(Andy and his winning Pike pictured below)
This was the best ever total weight reported in the history of the tournament! There was also a 23”, 4lb 7 oz Brown trout reported by Dale Mattson Jr. Trout will be considered as a prize fish category next year. Elbow Lake should be heating up for large bluegills as the ice goes out. LSSU was particularly impressed by the number of large Bluegills in Elbow Lake when they did work at HSC last fall. This is the last ice fishing report for this year and I would like to thank Bob McKenna, Gino Beaudoin, and Jim Rutledge for their help with these reports. Thanks guys!
