HSC Fishing Report

Millecoquin Lake - Fishing has improved greatly since the end of June. There are reports of people catching their limit of pike. (see pictures below).  Some good sized walleyes are being taken in the middle of the lake, white is the hot color.  Bass are being taken in the reeds using surface lures.  Floating mice or frogs work well nrea lily pads.  Blue gill fishing has slowed doen but size has improved over previous years.

Above is a picture of a 36" Pike caught by Vince, 15 year old grandson of a member.  It was caught in the north end using a black and white floating repala.  The next day he limited out on pike.

Above is a picture of a 42", 15.5lb Pike caught by 7 year old Jacob, the grandson of another member.  He was casting off the weeds.  That same day he caught a 20.6" walleye.

Cranberry Lake -
Decent sized perch have been reported caught using crawlers. The Club is in the process of moving pike from Pullup Lake to Cranberry Lake to help reduce the overpopulation of perch and help increase the average size of the perch in Cranberry. It would be appreciated if any pike caught in Cranberry would be released.

Pullup Lake- There are reports of bass being caught as well as northern pike. Bass are decent size and the pike are okay but thin. A very good sign is water levels are up over the last few years.

Jocko Pond-There have been reports of good sized rainbows being caught as well as brook trout. Water is clear so it can be hard to fish at times.  Blue Winged Olives and nymphs have been working well.  Volunteers have removed brush and obstructions from Jocko Creek just below the dam. Gravel has been added too. Hopefully this will increase spawning activity and also develop into a much better fishing hole.

Cold Creek –Limits of fish have been reported taken often on both the pond and the stream. Good sized rainbows are being caught in the pond. The pond has very few weeds this year, some experts are suggesting using grasshoppers or San Juan Worms.  Crawlers work well and seem to catch bigger fish when fished on the bottom.  We are finished with the steps and this area is ready for use and a new dock has been added.  The trail on the kid's portion of the stream has been cleared for better access.

Three Mile Pond- Some members have reported limiting out with good sized browns.  This pond is dark due to runoff. Bright colored lures or light colored streamers work well.  Some dry fly action using Adams and Griffins Gnats.  Mostly browns are taken with an occasional rainbrow.  There have been two new fishing docks installed one on each side.

Upper Millecoquin River-Fishing has been very good this year.  There are more rainbrows in the area close to the mouth and more brook trout as you go farther upstream.  Spinners, Mepps, and Panther Martins on light spinning gear work well.  Fly fishermen are using Light Bright Minnows and wooly buggers.
Elbow Lake-Fishermen are taking hefty bluegills and bass although they can be hard to find but they are there.

QGM Pond-
Fishing for gills has been good in the far end particularly off the 3 new docks. Access is being modified for a closer parking area to the pond and should be marked shortly. Please remember to turn your fishing surveys in to the office at the end of each month! Also, if you have something you want to be added to this report just e-mail it to me at johnmack46@yahoo.com or call me at 989.413.1598.  A special thanks to Phil Dennis for his input in this report.
